About Colosseum

The Colosseum is the largest amphitheatre ever built and the best-known monument of ancient Rome. Emperor Vespasian started construction around 70 AD and his son Titus opened it in 80 AD with 100 days of games. For almost four centuries, up to 50,000 spectators came here to watch gladiator fights, animal hunts and public spectacles. Today it forms one archaeological park together with the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and the standard ticket covers all three. It is one of the most visited monuments in the world, so for groups, booking a fixed time slot in advance is essential.
